Dr Gareth Davies is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist currently working at BMI The Duchy Hospital in Harrogate. His areas of interest include bowel disease such as IBS, IBD (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), endoscopic procedures including ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) and liver disease.
Dr Davies graduated from King's College London in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Neurosciences and Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degrees. After 3 years research into drug-induced gut injury he was awarded a postgraduate research doctorate degree (MD). His professional memberships include the Royal College of Physicians of London and British Society of Gastroenterology.
Additionally, Dr Davies is interested in research regarding gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), Barrett's oesophagus, and gullet cancer, with over 50 publications including books, book chapters and research in peer reviewed journals. He has also jointly received a Yorkshire Cancer Research Network grant for work into Helicobacter pylori infection.
He is married with 3 grown-up children, and enjoys challenges including cycling Lands End to John O'Groats, Everest Base Camp Trek, and in October ‘19 a trans-Atlantic yacht race raising funds for UNICEF.
