About

Dr Catherine Spencer-Smith is a Sports & Exercise Medicine doctor who has a number of specialist skills in the management of hip and groin problems, including femoroacetabular impingement. She has guided the recovery of over 3,000 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy and regularly works with GB athletes, professional dancers, PGA Golfers, as well as circus performers and climbers. She initially trained in Sports Medicine at Bath University and has a particular interest in helping people recover after surgery, or those who have failed to recover despite previous treatment.

Dr Spencer-Smith has a particularly functional and biomechanics-focused approach to care. She’s a great problem-solver of pain with complex movement patterns, such as ankle pain in runners, shoulder pain in tennis players, and spinal pain in golfers. In addition to this, she also assists in the care of patients under-going cancer treatment, to enable them to benefit from the treatment-enhancing effects of exercise, and to regain new resilience post-chemotherapy.

She works closely with physios, osteos, orthopaedic surgeons, podiatrists and strength and conditioning coaches, to ensure a very tailored and quickly responsive multidisciplinary approach for her patients. She has a very approachable and enthusiastic manner, and she’s passionate about helping patients to get back to doing what’s important to them, especially if they’ve been struggling to recover.
