    About

Dr. Allan Harkness is a Consultant Cardiologist with many years of experience in the treatment, management, and diagnosis of heart conditions such as heart failure, blackouts, heart murmurs, valve disease, and coronary artery disease, in addition to cardiac imaging techniques, such as echocardiography, cardiac MRI and CT. He sees private patients at the Ramsay Healthcare Oaks Hospital.

Dr. Harkness earned his primary medical qualification in 1994 at Glasgow University, during which he researched heart failure and assisted in the development of the first heart failure community nurse liaison service in the UK, with the support of the British Heart Foundation. He then undertook his basic and specialist training in cardiology, during which he gained accreditation in General Internal medicine in addition to cardiology. Upon completion of his training, he was appointed Consultant in 2006 at Colchester Hospital, where he later became the Clinical Lead for the Cardiology department. During his time at the Colchester Hospital Trust, he has developed the standard of cardiology care by introducing advanced echocardiography and CT angiography.

Dr. Harkness is also an active member of the medical education community, co-authoring international echocardiography guidelines for the British Society of Echocardiography and also lecturing at national conferences. He is also a member of the British Cardiovascular Society and the Founding member of the British Society for Heart Failure.

Went into appointment early. Had a full explanation of my condition, my only reservation is that the wearing of masks hampers understanding explanations.
