Raju Singh Ahluwalia is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, and a holder of the Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2022-3). This is considered to be one of the proudest honours of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The Professorship is named after the pioneering surgeon scientist, John Hunter, and is awarded annually for original research of surgical innovations. He follows in the long line of surgeons as such as Joseph Lister, Percival Pott and Paget, and Loard Darzi to be given this honor. His work was carefully considered by an expert committee and Prof Ahluwalia received the accolade for pioneering work in the field of diabetic foot surgery and clinical decision making undertaken at King's College Hospital, London, and the King's Diabetic Foot Unit.
He worked at the Lister Hospital, London Bridge Hospital and only remains at his current NHS post at King's College Hospital NHS Trust London. His areas of specialism includes the complete scope of foot and ankle surgery, limb reconstruction including ankle arthroplasty, and limb salvage and is a current chair of the bone infection meeting.
Raju completed his qualifications at Guys, Kings & St Thomas's Medical School London in 2001 with Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005 and a Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011. He gained membership to the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011, and has published both book chapters and scientific papers on sporting injuries of the foot and ankle.
Additionally, Raju representes his unit at national and international meetings both chairing and lectering and is interested in research and has published in peer reviewed scientific journal lectered and is an interested researcher and is a co-applicant in a NIHR grant funding project assessing diabetes foot care.
