Dr Rachel Jones is a consultant forensic psychiatrist at the Priory Hospital Chelmsford and BMI St Edmunds Hospital. She has a wealth of experience which she combines with evidence-based treatments to help her patients. She aims to provide the best quality of care and does this by listening to her patients' concerns and wishes, and incorporating this into their treatment plan. Dr Jones is able to treat a wide range of disorders in adults (aged 18-65 years) including schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and substance misuse. She works alongside psychological therapists to give her patients comprehensive treatment.
Dr Jones qualified in 1993 from The University of London before working in the NHS at West Suffolk Hospital, and then the John Howard Secure Hospital where she treated patients with conditions such as mental illness, personality disorders, and drug/alcohol misuse. She has expertise in serious violent offences, psychiatric criminality, assessment of the effects of torture, and risk assessment. She has experience of appearing as an expert witness and of preparing psychiatric reports for the Crown Court and the Family Court.
Dr Jones has a special interest in Bioidentical Hormone Therapy, based on that fact that hormones (particularly sex hormones) impact very significantly on mood, anxiety, memory and sleep. Based on this, measures patients' hormones and balances them wherever possible to treat the cause of hormone associated mood disturbance. She may use this method instead of or in addition to prescribing medication.

I have been so happy with Dr Jones. Having ADHD, two small children and a mother with dementia I honestly thought I was losing my mind as my whole personality had changed. I felt ashamed to open up about how angry and exhausted I’d become but I felt totally free from judgement, was listened to, reassured and given so much hope that my hormones are playing a huge part in my sudden change in behaviour and tolerance to the world.

Dr Jones listened carefully and explained how the process worked clearly at what seemed a difficult time for me with a clear outcome. I feel that I've 'found' myself again and can only say thank you.

Dr Rachel Jones was super lovely and professional. I have only had one initial consultation with her but she was so helpful and she is very knowledgeable about hormones. She advised me of what she thought would be the cause of my issues, and I have since started taking a vitamin to help with this (just to see if it would make a difference!) and that already has, so I am excited for the proper treatments that she’s going to give me. I am confident that she will continue to help completely clear up my hormonal acne and support me with my fertility issues! Thank you Rachel.

It was not confirmed in the letter whether I had been misdiagnosed with mental health issues for years when in fact it was more likely to be PMDD (I understand that it is difficult to diagnose now that I am in menopause). There seemed to be an emphasis on HRT as a treatment rather than a holistic approach. Dr Jones did not seem familiar with alternative approaches such as polyvagal theory or trauma therapy as a cause for underlying mood disorders. The follow-up appointments seems short - they have been as little as 15 minutes which makes the cost is incredibly high.

I felt listened to, and not made to feel stupid if I didn't understand something. Dr Rachel Jones explained things very well, she understood all my symptoms and didn't try to 'put me in a box'. I felt she really wanted to help me with my symptoms and thankfully the treatment she has been prescribing me has worked incredibly well.

Since taking my personalised prescription of hormones, I no longer feel on the edge of a nervous breakdown and no longer hate the world!! Dr Jones listens to my concerns and worries and tweaks my prescription to ensure the dosage will be more effective at taking me back to the person I was before hormone depletion started to rob me of me!
