About Professor M. Dominik Fischer
Professor Dominik Fischer is an award winning surgeon based at the Oxford Eye Hospital and The Manor Hospital, Oxford.
He is appointed Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Oxford and holds further teaching positions as Professor at the University of Tübingen, Germany and University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
He is the recipient of over 25 awards including the L. Klein Award for the advancement of vitreoretinal surery and the Senator H. Wacker Award for his contribution to the understanding of retinal and choroidal disease.
His position as key opinion leader in the field is reflected by his appointment on several advisory boards of patient organisations, biotech and pharmaceutical industry.
He receives invitations to teach courses at the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), is member of the Daily Center External Advisory Committee (Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, USA) and teaches at the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology. He also serves as editorial board member at several scientific journals.

Under the care of Prof Fischer my cataract operations, on each eye, three weeks apart, went seamlessly. Prior to the operation, I had very poor vision. We discussed my objectives, to see clearly again……. One month later, I now can, without any glasses, see near and far clearly. After the op. the eye drop timetable was kept to as directed and other than mild irritation post op, there has been no discomfort. I found during the hot weather using the recommended lubricant eye drops helpful. I was awake during the procedure. My eyes were well anaesthetised it was, painless and I was very well looked after by Prof Fisher and his team and the ward staff.
Very professional and a good bedside manner, clear communicator.
My surgery to remove a cataract was much quicker and easier than I had anticipated. Thanks to Prof Fischer and his team - excellent work!
I turned 100 years 5 days ago and Prof Fisher said this was my birthday present. What a present it was! The whole team was very kind and patient with me and the surgery was done in a flash. He even explained chromatic aberration to me as I was the first to use a colour camera for TV recordings in the UK!
I was very anxious to undergo surgery in my ‘good’ eye as the other eye has never been very useful. What if things would go wrong?! I know I was in good hands with Professor Fischer as experienced surgeon. Everything went well and I am so so relieved! Thank you very very much!
