Dr Christine Leong

Dr Christine Leong is a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at Croydon University Hospital and Shirley Oaks Hospital. She has specialist interests in general endocrinology, Type 1 and 2 diabetes, medical weight management and peri-operative diabetes care.

Dr Leong provides specialist assessment and management across diabetes, endocrinology and general internal medicine. Her endocrine practice covers disorders affecting the thyroid and parathyroid glands, pituitary gland, adrenal glands and gonadal/endocrine systems, alongside broader hormonal and metabolic presentations.

A notable aspect of Dr Leong's work is the management of diabetes before and around surgery. She has developed and implemented pathways for patients with diabetes who require urgent optimisation before an operation, with the aim of improving patient safety and maintaining appropriate glycaemic management throughout the peri-operative period.  She has also led investigations and quality-improvement programmes concerned with maintaining high standards of diabetes care and participates in national diabetes audit activity.

Dr Leong completed her undergraduate training at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine and she completed her higher specialist training at the prestigious King's College Hospital in South East London.

Medical education has remained an important part of Dr Leong's career. She undertook dedicated postgraduate study in clinical education at King's College London and worked as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London. She serves as an Educational Supervisor and Medical Appraiser, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. Her contribution to clinical medicine and education was recognised through election as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2020.

Dr Leong's approach is personalised, pragmatic and holistic.
