Dr Mohammed Amjed Khan

Dr Mohammed Amjed Khan (AKA Jed) is a Consultant Cardiologist who studied at University of Dundee and qualified in 1987.

Dr Amjed Khan has over 38 years of experience and has established an enviable reputation with both his colleagues and patients. He was awarded four Clinical Excellence Awards and has the honor and privileged of being a TEDx speaker. In 2020 he was included in the Northern Asian Power List top 100 under the category of thought leader.

Dr Amjed Khan has been actively involved in improving patient care through research which has received about £2 million of funding from the NHS and British Heart Foundation (BHF). Research included improving heart transplant surgery, reducing the risk of heart disease and looking at ways to improve the treatment of heart attacks. 

Dr Amjed Khan's NHS practice includes The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and Farefield Hospital where he deals with all cardiology emergencies, outpatient clinics, performing a wide range of heart test and working in the cardiac catheter laboratory.

He treats patients with all types of heart problems including angina, heart attacks, blocked arteries, heart failure, Atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF), arrhythmias, high cholesterol and blood pressure. He performs cardiac catheterisation and implants permanent pacemakers and internal loop recorders.

Dr Amjed Khan was the founder of Heart Specialist Clinic Ltd and sees private patients at Highfield Hospital (Rochdale) and performs coronary angiograms, pacemakers and internal loop recorders at the Alexandra Hospital (Cheadle). He see a wide range of patients including patients from overseas. Clients have included high ranking government officials, professional sports people including Premiership Footballers and Olympians, business people, professionals and people from all walks of life.

Dr Amjed Khan has three clinics at Highfield Hospital including a test clinic and will see urgent referrals at short notice. He sees patients with a wide range of heart problems including those reporting shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, irregular heart beats, dizzyness and black outs. He also see's patient with strong family history of heart disease or patients just concerned about their heart well being. Dr Amjed Khan also see's patients who need specialist assessment such as HGV and taxis drivers for DVLA tests or pilots.

Heart tests done include ECG (electrical heart tracing) echocardiography (ultrasound scan of the heart), heart monitors (checking for irregular heart beats), 24 hour blood pressure (checking for low or high blood pressure) exercise treadmill test (checking for angina), stress echo / CMR / nuclear scans (looking for angina), angiogram (looking for angina) and Internal Loop Recorder (checking for irregular heart beats).
