Professor Mark Whiteley is becoming known as the "Celebrity Veins Doctor" following his highly public treatment of Virgin DJ and Celebrity Chris Evans in November 2019. Using his pioneering techniques for varicose veins and thread veins, Mark has treated many celebrities over the last 20 years. Professor Mark Whiteley is a Consultant Venous Surgeon at The Whiteley Clinic and a visiting Professor at The University of Surrey. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome and he was the first surgeon to perform endovenous (keyhole) surgery for varicose veins in the UK.

Professor Whiteley opened The Whiteley Clinic in 2003, which is now a network known as The Whiteley Clinic. He has a research and education unit there and his team has won national and international prizes for their advances in venous surgery for leg and pelvic veins. They have also published over 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Whiteley has been named as the recommended vein surgeon by Tatler for over 11 years. In 2001, he and Judy Holdstock invented the TRLOP technique used for closing incompetent perforating veins. He has also written a book - "Understanding Venous Reflux: The Cause of Varicose Veins and Venous Leg Ulcers" and had edited a book with Emma Dabbs "Advances in Phlebology and Venous Surgery Volume 1".

In February 2019 he performed the first microwave treatment of varicose veins in the UK.

Mr Omar Abu-Bakr is a Consultant Venous Surgeon and Phlebologist with a special interest in walk-in, walk-out surgery for varicose veins. He has over 12 years of experience in treating varicose veins.

Mr Abu-Bakr is a specialist in General Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Phlebology, the International Union of Phlebology, and the European Venous Forum. He is a fellow of the College of Phlebology, UK.

Professor Jameel Mohideen is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon with a special interest in endovascular surgery, varicose veins, leg ulcers, peripheral vascular disease and lymphoedema.

Professor Mohideen completed his undergraduate training in Sri Lanka and his surgical training was in Lancashire and Sussex. He went on to join the Academic Vascular Surgery Department at St. Mary’s Hospital, London and the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He now works at the Whiteley Clinics where he has adopted The Whiteley Protocol.

Professor Mohideen has a keen interest in teaching and he was Clinical Lecturer at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Mr. James Crinnion is a Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London and Whipps Cross University hospitals with over 20 years’ experience specialising in general, vascular and endocrine surgery. He has particular expertise in the minimal access treatment of varicose veins, laparoscopic and open hernia surgery, treatment of gall stones, thyroid and parathyroid surgery and all arterial surgery.

Mr. James Crinnion qualified from Leeds University Medical School in 1987 and trained in Leeds, Sheffield, and London. In 1998 he was awarded an MD thesis for vascular surgical research.

Mr. Crinnion continues his interest outside of his clinical work by dedicating time to surgical education and he has published extensively with many original articles and book chapters. He has been Chairman of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons, an invited member of Council of the Royal College of Surgeons and Chairman of the North Thames Training Committee for General surgery. He has also been the Trust clinical governance lead (2003-9) and Clinical Director for General Surgery for Bartshealth (2012-2016).

Mr Aaron Sweeney is a consultant vascular surgeon, qualifying in 1992 from University College Dublin medical school. In 1995, he then moved to London and entered specialist surgical training, becoming dual-qualified in both general surgery and vascular surgery, going on to become one of the youngest ever consultants in vascular surgery when he was appointed to University Hospital Lewisham in 2002.

Mr Sweeney later became honorary consultant vascular surgeon to Bromley, Sidcup and King’s College Hospitals and was given a substantive appointment as consultant vascular surgeon to Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital. He then became the Clinical Director of Surgery at Lewisham Hospital and was instrumental in the centralisation of emergency vascular surgery at St. Thomas’ in 2008 after spending the first 6 years of his consultant career offering a pro bono regional on call vascular service for South-East London and Kent.

In 2014 Mr Sweeney entered full-time private practice and now runs a large vascular surgery practice which he heads jointly with his medical colleague and friend, Mr Eddie Chaloner, himself a consultant vascular surgeon. His medical achievements are not to be overlooked; together with Mr Chaloner, they pioneered the use of lasers in venous surgery and brought Laser Vein Surgery to both the NHS and private medical practice.

Mr Maytham is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon. He is the Unit Lead for the treatment of Venous Disease at St Georges Vascular Institute and the Clinical Lead for Vascular Trauma at the Major Trauma Centre. He is also an Honorary Consultant at Surrey and Sussex Hospitals Healthcare NHS Trust, and is the lead vascular clinician at East Surrey Hospital.

He served in the British Army as a Medical Officer in the regular forces retiring as Lieutenant Colonel in 2017. During his 18 years of service, he undertook operational deployments in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, North Africa and Afghanistan, and gained much experience in delivering surgical care in austere environments.

Mr Mohamed Abdelhamid is a London-based Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon working at St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust. He is also an honorary consultant at Epsom and St Helier's University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he serves as the lead vascular surgeon. Mr Abdelhamid graduated with honours from Cairo University Medical School in 1998 before completing a research and MSc degree in 2002, followed by a surgical residency training programme at Cairo University Hospital in 2003. Miss Rudarakanchana qualified in 2004 from the Cambridge University MB PhD programme and won the Lewin Prize in Surgery. She was also awarded numerous scholarships and fellowships during her PhD research in vascular cell biology, including the Magdalene College Donaldson Bye-Fellowship and the British Federation of Women Graduates Spurgeon Scholarship.

Her higher surgical training took place in London, where she gained specialist training in open and endovascular repair of complex aortic disease at St Mary’s Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. She also undertook an Advanced Endovascular Fellowship in lower limb arterial disease and diabetic foot management at St Thomas’ Hospital. Additionally, she holds a master's degree in Healthcare Finance and Management.

In 2011, Miss Rudarakanchana was appointed NIHR Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and developed interests in a number of areas, including endovascular skills training using immersive virtual reality simulation, optimisation of endovascular surgery through procedure rehearsal, and the metabonomics of aortic disease. Her current research topic examines the use of nutrigenomics to reduce cardiovascular risk.

Miss Rudarakanchana has been a supervisor on both BSc and PhD degrees. She is widely published and acts as an invited reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. She has also designed and delivered courses in endovascular skill training, both nationally and internationally, and is a trained educational supervisor.

Consultant vascular surgeon Mr Abdullah Jibawi has expertise in all areas of vascular disease, including diabetic foot problems, aortic surgery, and varicose vein treatment. He typically sees patients with difficult to treat varicose veins, eczema, and ulcers. He focuses particularly on the aesthetic side of varicose vein treatment. and was responsible for the design of a new classification system for varicose veins based on their complexity. He has additional expertise in hernia surgery (open and laparoscopic).

Mr Jibawi has vast experience in keyhole surgery to treat aortic aneurysms, having worked with top scientists, surgeons, and interventional radiologists at prominent centres around the UK. His background in mechanical engineering, physics, and mathematics enables him to choose the most suitable fitting graft design for complex anatomy to ensure the best long term outcome.

Mr Jibawi gained his medical qualifications at the University of Damascus with a distinction in physiology and anatomy. He went on to train in general and laparoscopic surgery before moving to the UK, where he joined training programmes with the East Midlands Deanery, the All Wales Deanery, and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. Following this, he completed a two-year fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery and received his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. Mr Jibawi also holds a higher doctorate degree for his work on improving methods and outcomes in vascular surgery. Furthermore, he authored ‘Current Surgical Guidelines,’ which was featured in the British Journal of Surgery.

Mr Jibawi joined Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2013 and St George's University Hospital NHS Trust in 2021. In addition to his current duties, he is also an instructor with the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Ian Franklin, Consultant Venous Specialist, works solely in private practice now, working within the King Edward VII's Hospital, The Lister Hospital, and the Cadogan Clinic in London. He is a highly experienced specialist with over 23 years spent working in the NHS.

Mr Franklin established the use of minimally invasive procedures in vascular issues to the NHS while working as a consultant for over 12 years. He is also an active researcher having written numerous journal publications, book chapters, and textbooks. He also engages in medical education, he previously held the role of programme director of the International Charing Cross Venous Course. He has previously been on the council of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and chaired the Circulation Foundation. Currently, he is the president of the Royal Society of Medicine Venous Forum.

During the current pandemic, Mr Franklin came back to work for the NHS spending a significant amount of time on the front-line caring for COVID-19 patients. He is one of a few UK surgeons to have extensive experience in treating acute COVID-19.
