Psychotherapy

As a Counselling Psychologist I am passionate about the work I do and the people I see. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients, finding understanding of their difficulties from their perspective, so that I can tailor therapy treatment to suit each unique individual. No one shoe fits all in therapy!

I believe that we all come across difficulties during our lives, but that if we collaborate to tailor therapy to your individual needs, you will develop a greater understanding of your inner world, and we can create a personal road-map for you which will show you the way forward, so you can overcome the challenges you face in the outside world.

I do truly want clients to have a fulfilled life and not to have to be in therapy longer than needed. I also understand the financial demands of our day and age and as such I like to practice mainly within a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework (which is generally shorter-term therapy with sustainable change). I am also trained in psychodynamic and mindfulness-based approaches and do not always use CBT as a stand alone treatment but integrated with other treatments. As my client in our therapeutic alliance, I think you deserve an expert service and as such will work with you in understanding your thoughts and related behaviours. As a naturally empathetic person, I empathise with the constraints of our lives and the difficulties we all face, and try to find techniques, skills and tools that fit with your strengths in helping you overcome difficulty and supporting you through any future trigger events.

As with GP's, when we walk into our appointment, we trust that the GP is an expert in their field and that we would like to walk out with a clear indication of our problems, what medication to take, how many times a day etc. My hope is that I could give you the same type of service. I see my integrated approach as somewhat of an educational process, and as such will develop with you a series of skills, insights, and strategies that you can apply in your current situation and any future reoccurrences. As an expert in the field I would like to be able to give you the tools from my toolkit so that you can go out into the world and work on any problem areas that may come up in your sessions to not only improve your thoughts, but your behaviours and feelings and in the grand scheme of things, your quality of life.

*Please note: I am happy to work on a sliding scale for individuals who are financially unable to afford the full fee and also offer 20min free consultations."

Counselling psychologist, Registered psychologist

I am a Counselling Psychologist practising in Putney, West London. I have extensive experience working in both private and NHS settings, and specialise in working with complex trauma and anxiety disorders.

I am integrative psychologist, which means I draw on  different therapeutic approaches to provide you with an informed and multifaceted approach to your unique concerns. The main approaches I am informed by are schema therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and integral eye movement therapy (IEMT).

That said, the therapeutic relationship has been found to be the most important ingredient for successful therapeutic work. I therefore, offer an initial free 15 minute telephone consultation to discuss expectations and hopes for therapy. We can then decide collaboratively whether to continue working together.

Primarily, I am interested in helping clients  overcome self-doubt, shame and feelings of unworthiness. My specialist training has enabled me to quickly identify the root issues causing psychological distress so that clients can move forward in life with more confidence and inner authority.

Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments

I specialise in alleviating shame, stress and anxiety from the mind and body. I combine psychological and spiritual based interventions to get to the root of the issues and enhance long-term therapeutic gains.

People work with me when they feel "stuck" in their distress, despite trying to fix themselves and working with various other therapies and treatments.

Here is how a client experienced therapy with me: "It is difficult to express just how invaluable Dr Ute has been for my development. When we began therapy, I was feeling extremely low and anxious, and throughout the past eight months, she has provided me with tools to not only feel better but also stronger and more kind and compassionate with myself. She has the ability to interpret how best to provide therapy depending on what has been going on in my life. Most of all, her injection of humour provides an opportunity to shed light on what can sometimes feel like only darkness. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone."

My clients experience low mood, anxiety, sleep difficulties and general stress. Many live with chronic illnesses and pain, disordered personalities, trauma, abuse, disordered eating, and ADHD. My clients face life-changing difficulties such as grief and loss, work issues, breakdown of relationships and life-crisis.

A client described it: "When I was at my lowest and in some very frightening situations, Ute was there as a moment of focus and calm during a tornado of awful. She helped me realise how serious my situation was and the implications of continuing what I was doing. She helped me see that the time really had come for me to genuinely pause my habits of destruction and horror and be kind enough to allow myself the time to heal. She assisted me in giving myself the space for self-kindness and reflection. She took no prisoners; there was no room for nonsense. She gave it to me straight, honestly and lovingly. I felt held in intelligence, safety and genuine care."

As my client, you receive your own tailored therapy, personalised to your needs as they arise at the moment. You will work with a therapist who is an expert in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Mindfulness-based therapies, EMDR and existential psychotherapy. Personalised audio recordings for relaxation, meditation and behavioural change training are part of your therapeutic journey. To work with me, I ask you to bring three things to our therapeutic journey: courage, curiosity and compassion.

My clients reflect on this therapeutic work: "Dr Ute has helped me in a life-changing way through her highly professional, sympathetic and compassionate manner. She has a wonderful way of encouraging me to dig deep and has helped me find a number of methods which help me find peace and calmness within me. My experience with Ute has been truly life-changing, and I have been able to get to know myself much better and, most importantly, change how I see and treat myself. She has made me a stronger person, and I cannot thank her enough for all her support."

I am an HCPC-accredited Counselling Psychologist, a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society and a Lecturer at the University of London. I have worked in the NHS, charities, specialised hospitals, private clinics, and private practices. Being bilingual, I offer therapy in both languages: English and German.
