Mr. Gulati is the lead Consultant Hip Surgeon at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust where he specialises in treating patients who suffer from the entire spectrum of hip and knee problems. He combines state of the art, modern, evidence based proven
technologies with a kind, compassionate, bedside manner to provide an
exceptional patient experience.

He treats patient with hip and knee problems across the entire spectrum ranging from sports injuries to degenerate osteoarthritis. His particular expertise include performing hip, knee and partial knee replacements alongside knee arthroscopy. He additionally
uses a range of modern, biologic, joint preservation treatments to treat
patients with symptomatic joints not severe enough to warrant joint replacement
surgery.

Mr. Gulati strives to deliver patients the best possible outcomes by employing optimally timed, evidence based treatments, tailored based physiotherapy and enhanced recovery pathways. He is fortunate to have access to some of London’s leading radiologists and
physiotherapists who work closely with him to deliver the best possible care

Background

Mr. Gulati completed his entire medical school training at St.John’s College, Cambridge University. During this period he was awarded the prestigious ‘Rolleston’ prize culminating
in a clinical internship at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital,
USA. Mr. Gulati was selected to undertake his speciality training on the highly
competitive Imperial College North West Thames Surgical Rotation. Whilst in
training, he took one year out of programme to complete a Higher Masters
Research Degree at the Musculoskeletal Laboratory, Imperial College. Here he
carried out novel, pioneering, biomechanical research using three dimensional
state of the art gait analysis technology to evaluate various mechansims which
may contribute to Osteoarthristis progression.

He also spent time contributing to the development of a motion sensor which will be used to objectively monitor patient performance following Joint Replacement Surgery.
This work was published in ‘Gait & Posture’ and presented internationally
at the ‘Orthopaedic Research Society’ in the USA. He passed all components of
his intercollegiate FRCS exam in 2013 at the first attempt and was subsequently
elected as a Home Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons.

Fellowships

Mr. Gulati received both Hip and Knee fellowship training at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an outstanding reputation as a centre of excellence for Joint Replacement Surgery. Here he was mentored by Professors Middleton & Harvey, some of the highest volume joint replacement revision surgeons on the National Joint Registry.

This was complemented by an overseas fellowship at the world renowned St.Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Here he gained considerable exposure to Revision Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery under the stewardship of Professor Waddell, the former president of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. He also utilised this time to gain invaluable
trauma experience within this Level 1 Major Trauma Centre.

Research

Mr. Gulati has an extensive research background and uses this to adopt an evidence based approach to both the conservative (non-surgical) and surgical management of all patients. He has published over 30 peer reviewed publications in a range of international high impact orthopaedic journals including the Bone & Joint Journal, Hip
International, Skeletal Radiology, Gait & Posture, Clin Orthopaedic Related
Research, Journal of Trauma and the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
He has presented his work at both national and international forums over 30 times
including the Orthopaedic Research Society (USA), BOA (UK), Efort (Copenhagen),
BASK (UK) and Sicot (Dubai).

Education

Mr. Gulati has a strong interest in medical education, training both medical students and junior surgeons. His positive feedback for teaching and mentoring during his training
led to the award of an Imperial College Honorary Lectureship. He was selected
to be one of the Consultant leads for junior doctors at Homerton Hospital. He
was also invited to regularly teach on a Consultant ISC Interview Course
offering mentorship, encouragement and managerial advice to potential
consultants from all medical fields.

He has been invited to both the Imperial College and Royal Free Teaching Faculties, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of surgeons. Mr Rupen Dattani is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises exclusively in shoulder and elbow arthroscopic (keyhole) and arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery as well as surgery for fractures around the shoulder and elbow joints.

After qualifying from the University of Wales, Mr Rupen Dattani completed his Orthopaedic training on the South West Thames specialist registrar programme. He also obtained a doctorate of medicine (MD) in orthopaedics at University College London.

During his career, Mr Dattani has been awarded with two prestigious fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery: the first allowed him to working with Mr Graham Tytherleigh-Strong in Cambridge and the second fellowship took place at the internationally renowned Reading Shoulder Unit working with Professor Ofer Levy. Mr Dattani has also completed a trauma fellowship at a Level I trauma centre in Vancouver, Canada. These fellowships have provided Mr Dattani with his highly specialised clinical focus on shoulder and elbow surgery.

Mr Dattani has a strong belief that the high quality of medical care we enjoy today has a foundation in well controlled research. In accordance with this belief, Mr Dattani has published over 20 articles in peer reviewed journals and has presented his work at both national and international conferences. His main research interests are in assessing patient outcomes following shoulder surgery. Mr Dattani is an author of a book used in the teaching and training of junior surgeons and has also authored book chapters for orthopaedics textbooks.

Professor Mohamed A. Imam MD, MSc, D. SportMed, PhD, FRCS (Tr and Orth) is an Orthopaedic fellowship-trained surgeon with a particular interest in Upper limb surgery, sports injuries and complex trauma. He was awarded multiple distinctive international awards and travelling fellowships from the NHS Academy, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), International Trauma Foundation (AO) and others. He had a fellowship in orthopaedic and trauma surgery presented to him by The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has completed two Degree level theses including a PhD on the healing of rotator cuff tendons tears and shoulder biomechanics and successfully filed patents.

Following the completion of specialist training, He undertook international and national upper limb fellowships at distinguished centres of excellence. These included embarking on specialist upper limb fellowships training at three internationally recognised units within the UK: the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the renowned Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Unit, Chertsey, Surrey where he currently works as a substantive consultant. He also undertook a complex trauma fellowship in Oxford University Hospitals, a Major trauma centre in Oxford.

Professor Imam performs major shoulder tendon repair, reconstruction, tendon transfers, joint preservation, joint replacement, cartilage regeneration, and tendon degeneration and tears. He undertakes modern Joint replacement surgery of the upper limb in patients with advanced arthritis where joint preservation is impossible. He offers total and partial replacement of the joints, including computer navigation and bespoke shape-matched surgery. He operates, using evidence-based practice, on different pathologies in the upper limb. He developed various techniques and modified others that he learned from different pioneers during his fellowships. He has authored two books, one on the uses of stem cells in orthopaedics and another reference atlas in shoulder arthroscopy. He regularly presents his research at various national and international meetings. His current research interests include novel materials, the use of stem cells for cartilage and tendon repair, bone marrow concentrate, platelet-rich plasma, ligament and cartilage regeneration-optimising ng outcomes after total joint replacements, minimally invasive fracture fixation devices, arthroscopy outcomes, bone healing and techniques to aid rapid return to sport after injury. He has designed orthopaedic instruments, designed and has published more than ten novel surgical procedures.

Professor Imam uses the latest technology in diagnosing different upper limb pathologies; he is currently researching, with an elite team of researchers, using Artificial and Machine intelligence in surgery. He specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to treat many conditions such as rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, recurrent dislocations, biceps injury, tennis elbow, stiff elbow, wrist problems and arthritis. Mr Dimitri Yanni studied medicine at Guy's Hospital Medical School . Subsequently he trained in Orthopaedics, including trauma, hand, elbow and shoulder surgery on the South East Thames training programme through Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals as well as the peripheral hospitals in the south east where he served both as a registrar and senior registrar. 

Mr Yanni did his fellowships at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary Pulvertaft Hand Unit and in a National Orthopaedic Hospital at Cappagh Dublin. He is a founding member of The British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) as well as the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS).

During his career, Mr Yanni gained distinctions which include "Surgeon in Training Medal" awarded by the RCS Edinburgh, The BOTATravelling Fellowship and the Rayne Institute Orthopaedic Prize, which he was awarded twice. He was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Bromley Group Hospitals in 1994.

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Zameer Shah, specialises in hip and knee surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, where he carries out routine hip and knee surgery and takes on complex referrals from across the country. He also treats a wide range of conditions including sports injuries, arthritis, and trauma.

Mr Shah gained his medical qualification in 1997 from Kings College London before training in a number of different surgical areas in Cambridge, Oxford, and London. He later spent time as a research fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital where he studied the use of stem cells. Mr Shah was chosen as an International Fellow at the renowned Insall Scott Kelly Institute and at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
