Mr. Oliver Dale is a Consultant ENT and Thyroid Surgeon in Bristol, with experience in treating a wide range of ear, nose and throat disorders in adults and children. Mr. Dale completed his training in ENT surgery in Oxford and Bristol, and was appointed as a consultant at University Hospitals Bristol in 2019. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr. Dale has a strong interest in research and gained a PhD for his work in head and neck cancer in 2016. In 2018, he undertook a Fellowship in advanced head and neck oncology surgery and robotics in Adelaide, Australia.

Mr. Dale is a core member of the Thyroid and Head and Neck multidisciplinary teams at University Hospitals Bristol. He works with colleagues in other specialties including paediatrics and neurosurgery to provide a tertiary referral service for complex cases from across the South West, and understands the importance of multidisciplinary healthcare in the treatment of his patients.

Mr. Dale has won several prestigious awards including the Margaret Witt Scholarship for Clinical Excellence and the Modi Research Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons.

Professor Martin Birchall is a Consultant Ear Nose and Throat Surgeon and Professor of Laryngology with over two decades of experience in the treatment and management of ENT conditions, particularly swallowing, airway and voice disorders. He is well known for pioneering the surgical use of tissue engineering, soft robotics, and transplantation. He sees private patients at Nuffield Health Bristol and Platinum Medical Centre, St Johns Wood.

Professor Birchall earned his primary medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 1984, after which he undertook his basic and specialist training at University College Hospitals, among other renowned London hospitals. Upon completion of his training, he was appointed Consultant and joined the specialist register in 1996. Since his Consultant appointment, Professor Birchall has become a world leader in otolaryngology and leads a large research team that innovates biomedical technology to aid in the treatment and management of airway disorders. Professor Birchall had the opportunity to co-lead the team that carried out the first stem cell-based organ transplant in 2008 and later worked as part of the team that carried out the world’s second laryngeal transplant at UC Davis, California. 

Professor Birchall specialises in the treatment of vocal cord weakness and is responsible for pioneering ways to restore function to the weakened vocal cords by using unaffected nerves (laryngeal reinnervation). His practice is accompanied by speech therapists to ensure his patients can undergo a full recovery.
