Dr Yiannis Kallis is a Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist at the Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) and the Royal Free Hospital London, two of the UK's leading teaching hospitals, where his practice covers a broad range of gastro-intestinal diseases. He specialises in liver disease and disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, and runs the NE London outreach liver transplant network. He is Clinical Lead for Hepatology at the Royal London Hospital.

He is a highly skilled in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, with a particular expertise in complex ERCP (endoscopy of the bile duct and pancreatic duct). He is clinical lead for ERCP services at Bart Health for the HPB cancer board. He is at the forefront of research into developing novel endoscopic treatments for pancreato-biliary cancers, and is a specialist advisor to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in this field. He serves on the British Society for Gastroenterology (BSG) liver committee.

He graduated from Cambridge University with Distinction and undertook postgraduate specialty training across several leading London teaching hospitals. Mr Patel moved from India to Highbury at a young age. He went to Highbury Grove Comprehensive School and with an early ambition to be a Surgeon, gained a place at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College. During his medical studies, he achieved the Sidney Scott prize in Otolaryngology (Proxime Accessit). In 1984 he achieved his Medical Qualification and began his surgical training by teaching Anatomy and Physiology at University St Andrews (Scotland). 

He completed training in general surgery, neurosurgery and plastic surgery. He also completed surgical training in ENT surgery at Kings College London and then at the Royal Marsden and St Mary's Hospital in London, this was where he was appointed as a Consultant ENT in 1995.
