Professor Mohamed A. Imam MD, MSc, D. SportMed, PhD, FRCS (Tr and Orth) is an Orthopaedic fellowship-trained surgeon with a particular interest in Upper limb surgery, sports injuries and complex trauma. Professor Imam performs major shoulder tendon repair, reconstruction, tendon transfers, joint preservation, joint replacement, cartilage regeneration, and tendon degeneration and tears. He undertakes modern Joint replacement surgery of the upper limb in patients with advanced arthritis where joint preservation is impossible. He offers total and partial replacement of the joints, including computer navigation and bespoke shape-matched surgery. He operates, using evidence-based practice, on different pathologies in the upper limb. He developed various techniques and modified others that he learned from different pioneers during his fellowships. His practice's ethos is to provide high quality, patient-centred care while tailoring the treatment to each patient, based on the best available evidence, which may include surgical or non-operative treatment. He is competent in all aspects of upper limb surgery.

Professor M Imam is heavily involved in research; He is a professor in the University of East London; having published over 70 peer-reviewed publications in top international medical journals and written more than 12 textbook chapters on upper limb injuries. He is the chief investigator of many clinical trials, including national and international projects. He has authored two books, one on the uses of stem cells in orthopaedics and another reference atlas in shoulder arthroscopy. He regularly presents his research at various national and international meetings. His current research interests include novel materials, the use of stem cells for cartilage and tendon repair, bone marrow concentrate, platelet-rich plasma, ligament and cartilage regeneration-optimising ng outcomes after total joint replacements, minimally invasive fracture fixation devices, arthroscopy outcomes, bone healing and techniques to aid rapid return to sport after injury. He has designed orthopaedic instruments, designed and has published more than ten novel surgical procedures.

Professor Imam uses the latest technology in diagnosing different upper limb pathologies; he is currently researching, with an elite team of researchers, using Artificial and Machine intelligence in surgery. He specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to treat many conditions such as rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, recurrent dislocations, biceps injury, tennis elbow, stiff elbow, wrist problems and arthritis. Besides, he undertakes all kinds of upper limb replacement surgery. He has published seminal papers in most of these pathologies cited by other academics hundreds of times. In trauma surgery, he utilises an evidence-based approach to achieve the best outcomes for his patients. Mr Amer Khan was educated at Kings College London where he gained a 1st class honours in Physiology and Exercise Medicine before qualifying in 1994. Mr Henry Colaço is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in reconstructive and sports shoulder and elbow surgery and complex upper limb trauma including hand and wrist injuries. He is the lead researcher for trials of a micro-arthroscopic camera, a fixation plate for distal radius fractures, and is involved in a trial of a novel plate for clavicle fixation. He is a site investigator for the NIHR-funded ProFHER-2, SCIENCE, and SOFFT randomised controlled trials.

He is a former member of the BESS Education Committee and founding member of the BESS Simulation Working Group. Since receiving the ‘Innovation in Simulation’ Award from the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) in 2015, he has continued his work to use simulation to enhance surgical skills training and improve patient safety. He developed a surgical skills course for UCL medical students and is working with industry partners to create a surgical skills simulation centre for the Wessex region.

In 2015 he was appointed as a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and is involved in teaching and training at regional, national and international courses. Since 2015, he has organised the annual London Shoulder Meeting which has grown to become the largest independent shoulder and elbow conference in the UK. In September 2018, he chaired the shoulder & elbow educational and scientific sessions at the BOA Centenary Conference. Richard Field is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of hip related problems. He is the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, St George's University of London. His NHS clinical practice is undertaken at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) where he has been the Director of Research since 2004. His Private Practice is undertaken at The Lister Hospital in Chelsea, at Spire St Anthony's Hospital in Cheam, Surrey and occasionally at SWLEOC.

Prof Field is the UK's most experienced surgeon in Direct Anterior (minimally invasive, muscle sparing) Hip Replacement and has been using this approach since 2008. He uses the standard longitudinal and the less visible, bikini incisions, as appropriate. He lectures internationally and has operated with surgeons in more than ten countries. He is a pioneer of Arthroscopic Hip surgery and was the President of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA - www.ISHA.net) in 2017. He was the first surgeon in the London area to adopt hip resurfacing and continues to use the Birmingham Resurfacing Hip (BHR) in selected patients. Prof Field has been actively involved in the design and evaluation of new implant designs since 1983. He is currently undertaking clinical studies on short femoral stem implants as well as some of the new generation of hip resurfacing designs. He is comfortable using robotic assisted surgery and patient specific custom cutting blocks to achieve optimal component alignment, where appropriate. Patients wishing to be considered for inclusion in studies on new implants may need to be treated at SWLEOC.

Prof Field completed his medical training at the Westminster Hospital in 1980 and went on to hold positions at a number of hospitals across London, including St Stephen's Hospital, University College Hospital, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. After being awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1988, he continued to his specialist training in Orthopaedics in London, Cambridge and Melbourne. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Helier Hospital, Surrey in 1994. Over the past 25 years, he has gained enormous experience in complex sports and developmental related hip problems and is a world leader in hip preservation and rapid recovery hip replacement surgery.  He continues to undertake over 200 hip operations per year. He has previously been an adviser to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Mr W James White is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, The Lister Hospital, 25 Harley Street, Weymouth Street Hospital and Chiswick Outpatient Centre. He qualified from University College Medical School, followed by studying Trauma and Orthopaedics on the Northwest London programme. He has also completed Shoulder and Elbow fellowships at the wolrd famous Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London. These have further enhanced his expertise and experience in arthroscopy, arthroplasty and trauma.

As a highly trained surgeon, he covers all aspects of shoulder and elbow conditions. Mr White uses non-operative techniques where possible, however when surgery is needed he has a reputation for performing surgery to the highest standard. This excellent reputation has been earned by his surgical outcomes combined with his effective empathetic communication and decision making sklills. Mr White is especially passionate about providing the patients with the best solution for their particular case, rejecting a one fit all approach.

Mr Andrew Forester is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working for the Imperial College Healthcare Trust. He qualified from the University of Leicester in 1984, before taking his higher surgical training in Northwest Thames. He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Trauma and Upper Limb Surgery between the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital, London and then took up a consultant post at Imperial College Healthcare at Charing Cross Hospital, West London.

After qualification Mr Forester studied Design and Engineering with the Open University to understand better Orthopaedic principles. He later continued his studies completing a Diploma in French in 2001.

Mr Forester sees patients with all common shoulder and elbow conditions. His main area of interest includes minimally invasive treatment/arthroscopic surgery, particularly for frozen shoulder, stiff elbow, rotator cuff pathology and instability. He is an expert in upper limb reconstructive procedures, including joint replacement surgery, and offers a full range of both open and arthroscopic management.

Mr Forester is actively involved in teaching and training of surgical residents and general practitioners. He is a member of the Faculty of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh and takes an active part in post-graduate training.

In his spare time Mr Forester enjoys sailing his Dart 16 catamaran, cycling, tennis, snowboarding (badly), DIY and gardening. He particularly enjoys taking Kevin his collie campervanning with his wife Rachael.
