I came to the hospital for a 7 day detox after ‘slipping’ from my 12 step recovery programme. The nurses have ‘put me back together again’ after feeling completely broken. I can not thank the whole team enough.
It was really inspiring and I realised a lot of things through the groups and therapy about my self I appreciate all the help.
My 1:1 therapist Joanne and my psychiatrist Dr. O have been wonderful and have helped me a lot. I feel as though I have made a lot of progress with Joanne and grateful to have had 3 1:1 sessions a week. I’m thankful Dr. O helped me feel heard and helped me fix my night time meds. Though my individual care has been great with Joanne and Dr. O I have had a lot of trouble with other things at the Nightingale. Having nursing staff tell me I “should have reported it sooner”, and it referring to me being raped was quite unsettling and then “yeah well what if other people got hurt because you didn’t report it sooner” was not a great follow-up. This is one of MANY instances. Another thing I feel needs to be addressed is how repetitive groups are. If groups only have 2 weeks alternating it becomes hard to want to go to something that’s incredibly repetitive. When I experienced “CBT” here it was somehow more like IPT and I didn’t find that helpful whatsoever. In groups if you need to use the loo you can’t come back which feels like a punishment and I personally felt trapped. Finally we are not listened to. When “we” the ward, had community meetings nothing had been addressed. The staff is also not heard. These complaints we’d had weren’t unreasonable such as art supplies, or Netflix. We just wanted things purely for morale and this was ignored for WEEKS (about six weeks) and still hasn’t been followed up with: which lets me know no one listens (if there’s a problem) to the patients nor their staff.
All the staff are lovely and supportive
