Having completed training in vascular surgery in the Yorkshire and Humberside region I was appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and started work there in January 2005. I am clinical director of vascular surgery and have a continuing interest in research and medical education.

I have over 17 years of experience as a vascular consultant looking after patients with arterial and venous disease. I have a clinical interst in vascular access surgery for haemodialysis.

Early in my consultant career I completed training in vascular ultrasound and endovenous techniques for the treatment of varicose veins including sclerotherapy, Radiofrequency and LASER ablation and now have experience of treating over 2000 patients with varicose veins and venous insufficiency.

What is a vascular surgeon?

Vascular surgery is a surgical branch focused on disorders of the circulatory system (arteries, lymphatic vessels and veins). Vascular surgeons are trained for radiological and surgical procedures on the circulatory system.

When to see a vascular surgeon?

You may want to consult a vascular surgeon if you have been diagnosed with an aneurysm (enlargement of an artery), atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and strokes most commonly. Vascular surgeons treat a number of conditions including lower leg ulcers and poor circulation, aneurysms (dilatation of blood vessels) and strokes (cerebral vascular accidents).
