centres like Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, The Royal Marsden

Hospital, The Royal National Throat Nose and Ear, Charing Cross Hospital, St

Mary’s Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. Following

his success in being appointed as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in

2016, he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training in 2017. In

2017, he was successfully appointed as a substantive consultant ENT surgeon at

Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. He has developed an interest in

Rhinology, sinonasal pathologies and anterior skull base surgery during his

training and dedicated his latter years of training into developing his skills

in the field of rhinology, facial-plastics and anterior skull base surgery. He

has gained a vital experience in both open and endoscopic anterior skull base

surgery during the last year of his training/fellowship working at the

skull-base and advance sinus surgery firm at the Royal London Hospital.

He was appointed as an NHS consultant in London’s Chelsea and Westminster NHS

Foundation Trust in 2017. His NHS work is mainly based at West Middlesex

University Hospital and to a lesser extent Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

His NHS practice include both adult and paediatric ENT services. Although his

main subspeciality interest is rhinology, allergy, nasal surgery, and

endoscopic sinus surgery, he kept a broad interest in all aspects of ENT

surgery, not least hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, voice disorders, throat

discomfort, snoring, sleep disorders, neck lumps and thyroid disorders. Since

his appointment into his current NHS post, he has pushed to develop the ENT

practice at the Trust by introducing new technologies and new procedures to the

department, not least balloon sinoplasty and endoscopic ear surgery. He is also

daughter and expecting his second child in July 2018. He is a keen tennis

player and has won several junior tennis trophies for his club, school and

university.

Research and Academia:

Between the years 2008 and 2011, he had taken time off his training to concentrate on

his research in the field of Molecular Oncology and Immunotherapy at Bart's

Cancer Institute. In 2014, his novel work in combining oncolytic virotherapy

and immunotherapy in the treatment of solid tumours was honoured by Queen

Mary’s University of London with a Doctorate of Philosophy degree (PhD) in the

field of molecular oncology and gene therapy. He has an on-going interest in this

field of research and currently involved in few clinical trials.

Mr Anwar, has published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented in international,

national and local academic meetings.

Community and GP clinics:

At Teddington Memorial Hospital, he runs a weekly outreach ENT clinic, focusing on

delivering a local and accessible ENT services to the local population,

including hearing assessment and hearing aid dispensing. At the same hospital,

he runs a monthly joint GP clinic, whereby two local GPs with specialist

interest in ENT would present him with patients they have reviewed previously

in their corresponding clinics and deemed necessary for a specialist opinion;

without the need for referral to secondary care centres.

Teaching and Training:

He has a specialist interest in training and teaching. Mr Anwar is the main

organiser of Bart's ENT training courses. Since 2007, he has organised 11 FESS

& Rhinoplasty courses, 11 Head and Neck dissection courses and 2 Temporal

bone dissection courses. He has helped set-up Bart's Introduction to ENT course,

aimed at junior trainees interested in joining a career in ENT.

These courses throughout the years have complemented ENT surgeons’ training and have

provided them the certification in order to achieve their competencies. Many of

them are now back to be faculty members of the courses, having been candidates

on these courses previously.

Charity work:

Mr Anwar is passionate about charity and medical aid. In 2016, he spent a month in

Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, whereby he was part of a

massive charity mission in the assessment and the rehabilitation of children

with hearing disability. During that mission, more than 2000 children were

assessed in various camps around Jordan and an excess of 500 hearing aids were dispensed

to those children. Local health authorities were trained to maintain those hearings

aids and a follow up visit is planned in 2018.

What is an Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon?

Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons specialise in the treatments of disorders relating to hearing, smell and balance.

When to see an ENT Surgeon?

You may wish to contact an ENT surgeon if you experience problems with your ears or inside your nose and throat. Many patients see ENT surgeons due to hearing problems which require surgery. Sometimes nose and throat problems may manifest themselves as problems with breathing and swallowing. Some common conditions that ENT surgeons treat include sinus problems and nose bleeds. Common procedures performed by ENT surgeons include tonsillectomies and operations on adenoids causing snoring and obstruction.

How to find a good ENT doctor?

Users can search for a suitable and highly-rated ENT (ear nose & throat) doctor on Doctify to find the most appropriate practitioner for their needs. You can refer to ratings left by other patients to review the feedback about doctors so you can make an informed choice.

How to book a private ENT appointment?

Doctify allows you to search for private ENT doctors with available appointments through our system. Doctify will show a list of appointments beside each ENT doctor including a range of dates and times so you can choose which appointment is most suitable for you and book directly from Doctify.

How much does it cost to see a private ENT specialist?

The cost of appointments to see a private ENT specialist can vary. It will depend on the type of appointment and what requirements are needed thereafter, such as surgery which will incur an additional cost to the initial consultation. It is best to refer to the specialist you intend on seeing in regards to their pricing schedule as it can vary by each specialist.

What does an ENT surgeon do?

ENT surgeons are specialists that deal with disorders and conditions related to the ears, nose and throat as well as related areas of the head and neck. They diagnose and treat conditions such as various infections of the ears, hearing-related issues and tinnitus, problems that affect the nose, nasal cavity and sinuses, as well as speech, eating and swallowing conditions that affect the throat. ENT surgeons are also trained to treat and manage other head and neck-related conditions including trauma, disease and deformity.

ENT appointment – what to expect?

While each appointment will be individualised to your needs as a patient, most appointments follow a similar layout. The appointment will involve an in-person consultation with your specialist to assess your situation and provide the next course of action as recommended based on the diagnosis. On Doctify you can now find ENT surgeons who also offer video consultations.

What happens at your first ENT appointment?

During your initial consultation with your ENT specialist, you’ll begin with your ENT doctor taking a detailed history of your condition along with a timeline of when you began experiencing symptoms. From there, they will usually conduct a physical examination to make a diagnosis and provide a roadmap for the next steps which may involve surgery, non-invasive treatments or additional investigation.
