Mr Sam Vollans is a subspecialist upper limb orthopaedic surgeon. 

He has undertaken special training in the UK and abroad in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has worked alongside and been trained by three of the world's most renowned elbow surgeons (Mr D Stanley, Prof D Eygendaal, Dr van Riet). 

Mr Vollans graduated from the University of Leeds in 2005 and then completed his specialist training in Yorkshire. Following this, he undertook further training in both elective and trauma shoulder & elbow surgery in Sheffield. As well as this, he also completed a European Travelling Fellowship awarded by the British Elbow & Shoulder Society.

Mr Vollans has developed a particular interest in elbow surgery including primary and complex revision elbow replacement, elbow arthroscopy, and paediatric/adolescent elbow deformity, osteochondritis and instability.

He prides himself on excellent communication with patients and is passionate about innovation that improves the patient care and experience.

Mr Pennington graduated with honours, in 2004 from the University of Leeds and subsequently completed all of his surgical training in Yorkshire. In 2013 he was appointed as the sole Fellow on the highly regarded Coventry Shoulder Fellowship with Steve Drew and Tom Lawrence. This gave him a unique experience of a high volume of operating in the whole spectrum of shoulder and elbow surgery. 

He further enhanced his elbow experience by being awarded the British Elbow & Shoulder Society Mayo Elbow Fellowship in 2015; affording him the opportunity to visit and spend time working alongside Dr Shawn O’Driscoll at the Mayo clinic in 2016. 


He was appointed as a Consultant Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon in 2015; his NHS practice is based in Huddersfield & Halifax and his private practice is in Leeds, Huddersfield and Elland.


He has a special interest in total shoulder arthroplasty and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and reconstructive surgery. He has developed a particular interest in the management of complex primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty cases. Mr Simon Fogerty is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon working for The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. He also has private practices at The Spire Elland Hospital and the BMI Huddersfield Hospital. He provides consultations and treatments on trauma, shoulder and elbow conditions. He also provides a patient-centric approach towards treating his patients with the highest level of quality and care.

Mr Fogerty qualified from Sheffield University Medical School in 2001, which is where he also completed his higher surgical training. Following this, he moved to West Yorkshire (Leeds) and undertook a Yorkshire Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training Programme. During this, he completed a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine. This allows him to gain a better understanding in the benefits of exercise and applying the best treatments for athletes. Towards the end of his orthopaedic training, he completed a 12 month fellowship under the supervision of the renowned surgeon Dr Laurent Lafosse. This provided Mr Fogerty with a good understanding of arthroscopy and the latest techniques to treat the shoulder and elbow.

Mr Fogerty is an expert in arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and shoulder instability, with a good understanding of the Latarjet procedure (coracoid transfer). He also provides treatments for tennis elbow and ulnar nerve entrapment.

Simon is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in disorders of the shoulder and elbow, as well as sports injuries. Simon received his medical degree in 1997 and went on to train in Yorkshire and Australia. Simon undertook international fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery in Annecy, France and Wrightington. In 2009, Simon carried out the complex arthroscopic Latarjet shoulder stabilisation procedure - making him the first surgeon in the UK to do so.

Simon has expertise in the management of shoulder pain, rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulders, AC joint injuries and shoulder arthritis as well as disorders of the elbow including tennis/golfers elbow, stiffness and ulnar nerve compression. He has a strong belief in tailoring treatment to and individuals needs and circumstances and in many cases problems can be managed without the need for surgery.

Simon is himself a keen sportsman and has played both rugby union and league for over 20 years. He now enjoys running, cycling and triathlons and recently completed an Ironman and the New York marathon.

Simon currently has private practices based in York and Leeds, with his main NHS practice in York.
