Dr Mohammed Amjed Khan (AKA Jed) is a Consultant Cardiologist who studied at University of Dundee and qualified in 1987.

Dr Amjed Khan has been actively involved in improving patient care through research which has received about £2 million of funding from the NHS and British Heart Foundation (BHF). Research included improving heart transplant surgery, reducing the risk of heart disease and looking at ways to improve the treatment of heart attacks. He is currently planning an Artificial Intelligence cardiology project. 

Dr Amjed Khan's NHS practice includes The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and Farefield Hospital where he deals with all cardiology emergencies, outpatient clinics, performing a wide range of heart test and working in the cardiac catheter laboratory. 

He treats patients with all types of heart problems including angina, heart attacks, blocked arteries, heart failure, Atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF), arrhythmias, high cholesterol and blood pressure. He performs cardiac catheterisation and implants permanent pacemakers and internal loop recorders.

Dr Amjed Khan was the founder of Heart Specialist Clinic Ltd and sees private patients at Highfield Hospital (Rochdale) and performs coronary angiograms, pacemakers and internal loop recorders at the Alexandra Hospital  (Cheadle). He see a wide range of patients including patients from overseas. Clients have included high ranking government officials, professional sports people including Premiership Footballers and Olympians, business people, professionals and people from all walks of life.

Dr Amjed Khan has three clinics at Highfield Hospital including a test clinic and will see urgent referrals at short notice. He sees patients with a wide range of heart problems including those reporting shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, irregular heart beats, dizzyness and black outs. He also see's patient with strong family history of heart disease or patients just concerned about their heart well being. Dr Amjed Khan also see's patients who need specialist assessment such as HGV and taxis drivers for DVLA tests or pilots.

Heart tests done include ECG (electrical heart tracing) echocardiography (ultrasound scan of the heart), heart monitors (checking for irregular heart beats), 24 hour blood pressure (checking for low or high blood pressure) exercise treadmill test (checking for angina), stress echo / CMR / nuclear scans (looking for angina), angiogram (looking for angina) and Internal Loop Recorder (checking for irregular heart beats).

Dr Saqib Chowdhary qualified from St Thomas' Hospital, London having trained in cardiology and coronary intervention at University Hospital Birmingham, Walsgrave hospital (Coventry) and the University Health Network, Toronto, Canada.

Saqib has amassed in-depth training in all fields of general cardiology and coronary intervention both as a clinical SpR and as a Clinical Lecturer. He was awarded his PhD in Medicine in 2002 and has published extensively in the fields of nitric oxide, cardiac autonomic dysfunction and heart failure.

 

In 2003 he was awarded the prize of Young Investigator of the Year by the British Cardiac Society. Subsequently, he was awarded an international interventional fellowship at the Toronto General and Mount Sinai Hospitals, Toronto.

Dr Chowdhary is now a Consultant in Cardiology and Coronary Intervention at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. Dr Chowdhary has expertise in all aspects of general cardiology; angina, hypertension and heart failure in particular. His sub-specialist interest is coronary angioplasty and TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation). He focuses on complex stenting including radial access procedures, chronic total occlusions (CTO), the use of intra-coronary imaging (IVUS and OCT) to improve the results of stenting and transcutaneous septal ablation for the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Interventional Cardiology

Dr Scot Garg trained at the University of Manchester, graduating in 1999. He then undertook his specialist training in cardiology and coronary angioplasty (PCI) in  Yorkshire.

Following his specialist training, Dr Garg worked at the Thoraxcentre, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, researching new coronary stents and the risk stratification of patients treated by PCI. He received his PhD researching the latter from the Erasmus University in 2011 with a cum laude judicium. He has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at meetings nationally and internationally.  He is currently a peer reviewer for several cardiology journals and is on the international editorial board for one journal. He continues to research in Cardiology and teaches other clinicians.

In 2010, Dr Garg he became the Interventional Fellow at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and in the following year began work as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the East Lancashire NHS Trust. Through this, he has intensive experience in PCI. Essentially all of his diagnostic and interventional cases are performed trans-radially. Dr Garg performs hundreds of angiogram and angioplasty procedures each year and treats over one thousand patients annually.


Dr Garg will see patients without a referral and by appointment outside his regular clinic times.

Dr Mark Robert Hargreaves MD FRCP
Dr Hargreaves is a Consultant Cardiologist and Physician with over 23 years of experience.  He qualified from the University of Dundee 1982 (MB ChB).  He completed post graduate training in Cardiology in London, Oxford and as an international fellow in Canada (Edmonton).  He is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and European Cardiac Society.  He has specialist accreditation in the management of heart failure and cardiac rhythm abnormalities, including complex device therapy (CCDS).  His clinical interests include the investigation and management of patients with shortness of breath, chest pain or palpitations. He will review patients at short notice in a dedicated weekly clinic at the Highfield Hospital, Rochdale.  In addition, he has an established weekly diagnostic ECG (electrical heart tracing) and echocardiography (ultrasound scan of the heart) service and is happy to review patients both with and without referral letters.

His private practice is based at both the Highfield Hospital (Rochdale) and the Alexandra Hospital (Cheadle).  His NHS practice is based at the Pennine Acute Hospital group, Greater Manchester.

He is registered as an accredited
