** For appointment enquiries please contact Mr Shah's Medical Secretary on 01253 308031**

Mr Shah has been involved in orthopaedics since 1998. He has 3 orthopaedic degrees from India, 3 from the UK (including the FRCS in trauma and orthopaedics) and he is a GMC-registered consultant in trauma and orthopaedics.

His specialist interest is in hips and knees, and he believes that narrowing his focus in this way allows him to deliver better outcomes. His focus is on delivering an ethical and sensible consult to start with. An ability to explain the pathology in simple terms and then laying out the options available is vital to this.

With hips and knees, He deals with all pathologies including sports injuries, painful or unstable joints due to early wear and tear, and severe forms of arthritis. Treatment options may range from gaining an understanding of the problem and choosing a conservative approach, to physiotherapy or injections to the joint or surrounding area, to keyhole surgery and various forms of joint replacements.

Mr Shah has been working in the NorthWest since 2003 and has enjoyed learning from some excellent surgeons in some well-run hospitals. This includes working at Wrightington Hospital, one of the centres of excellence for orthopaedic work, as the John Charnley Fellow learning how to tackle complex hip and knee problems.

Mr Shah is a father of two- a teenage son and a younger daughter (who still thinks he is great). In his free time, he loves watching and playing cricket and swimming and spending time with his children.

Knee Surgery

Mr Gareth Stables has been looking after people with knee problems for over 18 years. What he's noticed over the years is that consultants who specialise in one thing tend to have the best results. That’s why he chose to only look after and help people with knee problems.

There are three main problems that Mr Stables can help you with:

Diagnosing your knee pain - getting to the bottom of what’s causing the pain, arranging investigations such as MRI scans and X-rays, making sure you understand what the problem is and helping you fix it.

Knee arthritis -  He can help diagnose knee arthritis early and will be able to offer treatments such as specialist joint injections (that are not always available on the NHS).

Early diagnosis and treatment can help you avoid major surgery. If you need surgery, such as a knee replacement, he will help you decide if surgery is right for you, and, will only perform the surgery that is right for you.

Sports injuries - for example, helping you get active and playing again after a cartilage tear or cruciate ligament tear.
