He completed his (M.B.B.Ch) Bachelor of Medicine and General Surgery, from Faculty of Medicine Tanta University; one of the leading Medical Schools in Egypt. He then went on to complete his Master's Degree in Ophthalmology from the same medical school after three years of residency. In 2006, he completed his fellowship in Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon in Glasgow UK.
From 2004 to 2006 Dr. Essam worked in Magrabi Eye Hospital and Centers a leading ophthalmic chain in the Middle East in Jeddah-KSA as an Associate Consultant. After this, he went on to work as an Oculoplasty & Orbit Consultant from 2006-2012. From 2008 until present, Dr. Elshabshiry is working as Oculoplasty & Orbit Consultant in Magrabi Eye Hospital Cairo and Elwad Eye Center Cairo, Egypt.
From 2021 till now Dr. Elshabshiry is working as Oculoplasty & Orbit Specialist at Eye Consultants Center – Dubai Healthcare City Dubai, UAE.
