Saudi German Hospital Dubai is a proud member of one of the biggest private hospitals groups in the Middle East and North Africa. It opened in March 2012, the SGH Group’s sixth tertiary care facility. Since then its reputation has grown as a major tertiary care centre for the region, offering 300 beds in spotlessly clean, comfortable surroundings. No wonder Global Brands Magazine has awarded the Saudi German Hospital Dubai a Most Trusted Healthcare Brand award.

As you’d expect the hospital is accredited by the JCI, Joint Commission International, and CAP, the College of American Pathologists. They hold a Certificate of Excellence, JCI CCPC for Management of their Acute Myocardial Infarction Program, and operate to two ISO standards, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. This facility is part of his highness Sheikh Mohamad Bin Rashid’s plans to establish Dubai as an international one-stop-shop for all medical treatments. And that means SGH is more than happy to facilitate medical tourism, both by giving the best available medical care in the region and providing special medical tourism packages. They employ multilingual staff, who together speak more than 35 languages, to help make every visitor’s experience a good one and can even help with local accommodation and book your flights for you.

What is Neurology?

Neurology deals with disorders of the nervous system, namely the diagnosis, exploration and treatment of every condition and disease affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. This includes the brain and spinal cords, their coverings, the relevant blood vessels, and so-called effector tissues like muscle.

A neurologist deals with coordination problems, muscle weakness, changes in sensation, confusion, dizziness and more, all of which can have a neurological component. As such, a neurologist will help manage the symptoms of neurological disorder on their own or in partnership with other specialists.

What procedures can you find at a Neurology clinic?

  • MRI scanning
  • CT scanning
  • PET scanning
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Tensilon testing
  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • Nerve conduction tests (neurophysiology)
  • injections for dystonia
  • Muscle and nerve biopsy
  • Referrals to neurosurgeons
  • Sleep studies
  • Angiography

What should you expect at a Neurology clinic?

Your GP might refer you if they suspect you need specialist help. Your first appointment with a neurologist, will almost always include a physical examination, and a neurological examination to test your muscle strength, coordination and reflexes. Because different neurological disorders can have very similar symptoms, they might carry out extra testing before making their diagnosis, talking it through with you, and ultimately making expert recommendations for treatment.
