Fakih IVF Fertility Centre was first established by Dr Michael Fakih, a Reproductive Endocrinologist. He had the aim of delivering improved fertility treatments to help infertile couples to successfully conceive and start a family. The centre offers consultations and treatments on Infertility, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Genetic testing and IVF procedures.

This was the first IVF centre to be set up in Dubai in 2011, followed by further locations including Abu Dhabi in 2013 and Al Ain in 2018. His IVF centres are some of the few centres in the Middle East to have a Genetics Laboratory, providing screening for genetic diseases and chromosomal abnormalities. Through understanding the genetics behind infertility, specialised treatments can be created to resolve the problem of infertility.

The centre has five core values which allow it to strive for excellence, Family, Achievement, Kindness, Innovation and Hope. These values together help to create families and achieve the highest success rates.

What is Fertility Medicine?

Fertility medicine deals with the many and varied reasons why a couple may not be able to conceive a child. Specialising in assessing and treating infertility, this is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynaecology.

A fertility clinic can find itself dealing with a very broad range of conditions. The fertility medicine discipline covers everything from blocked or damaged tubes – something called endometriosis – to every aspect of male and female fertility, looking into problems like fibroids and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), ovulation issues and miscarriage, reduced ovary function and abnormal sperm or semen.

What procedures can you find at a Fertility Medicine clinic?

  • Azoospermia
  • Microsurgery to fix damaged fallopian tubes
  • Implantation screening
  • Reproductive surgery
  • Sperm testing
  • Transmyometrial egg transfer.
  • Transvaginal scanning
  • Tubal Surgery
  • Surrogacy
  • Preimplantation genetic diagnosis
  • Preimplantation genetic screening
  • Clomifene to drive better ovulation
  • Tamoxifen, an alternative to clomifene
  • Metformin for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Gonadotrophins to stimulate female ovulation
  • Fallopian tube surgery
  • Treatment for endometriosis
  • Fibroid treatment
  • PCOS treatment
  • Epididymal blockage treatment
  • Surgery to retrieve sperm
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
  • In vitro fertilisation (IVF)
  • Egg and sperm donation
  • Egg collection and transfer
  • Hormone injections
  • Prescription medicines
  • Hysteroscopic surgery
  • In-vitro fertilisation (IVF)
  • Laparoscopic surgery (keyhole)
  • Hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography

What should you expect at the Fertility Medicine clinic?

You will probably need to attend a fertility clinic with your partner, since it takes two to conceive and either of you or both of you, could be suffering from fertility issues.  The first step is lots of questions, asked by your fertility expert so they can come up with an accurate diagnosis. Your answers will drive the treatment plan you eventually get. This is also your opportunity to ask questions.

As a woman, you may have a full hormone profile test, and might even have an ultrasound scan to check the ovaries and womb. Both of you might need to have a blood test and, as a man, highly likely you’ll have your sperm tested. Investigations can also include ovulation assessment, endocrine assessment, pelvic ultrasound, fallopian tube assessment, laparoscopy, and hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography for women, plus ultrasound testing for men.
